ASSESSMENT: What? Why? How?
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT - Monitors student learning and provides feedback so the student can see how he or she is doing. Formative assessment also provides the instructor with information on how to improve instruction to best meet the needs of the
individual student.
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT - Evaluates student learning at the end of a unit of study and compares those results against benchmarks or standards.

Assessment Resource – As teachers, we need to have efficient and accurate ways to assess student learning. Once such method of assessment – typically used for summative assessments – is giving students a test that includes all objectives in a particular unit.
For schools interested in making test administration and data analysis easy on teachers, Mastery Manager can be a good option.

Mastery Manager is a web-based assessment data compilation system that enables teachers to score assessments, through a scanner located in each building, and have immediate access to detailed data analysis reports wherever Internet access is available. This program allows teachers to create an item analysis – showing how students did on each question of the exam (even if there are multiple versions of the same exam). Furthermore, teachers can link questions to learning objectives, allowing teachers to determine how students performed on each objective separately. This helps teachers establish which standards need to be retaught, and which have been mastered. A link to the website is below:
